Health & Hygiene

We have procedures for staff and children to follow in order to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene at our centres.

On a daily basis, children are reminded to wash their hands:

a) When they arrive at the centre

b) Before and after meals

c) After using the toilet

d) After outdoor activities

e) After they come into contact with a child who may be sick

Staff are all medically cleared for employment at our Learning Harbour Student Care Centres and all teachers hold valid First Aid Certificates.

All children must be immunised before the 1st day of class and it is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that the child is medically fit to attend the class.

Health checks are conducted every morning/afternoon when the children report to the centre.  Temperature is taken twice a day.  With the best interest of the other children at heart, the Ministry of Community Development, Youths and Sports (MCYS) and Ministry of Health (MOH) have stated that any child suffering from the following symptoms are refrained from reporting to the centre until they are fully recovered. A medical clearance, in terms of a written letter by a registered practitioner, is required before the child will be allowed to return to the centre.

Symptoms include:

a) High fever above 38degree Celsius.

b) Throat infection.

c) Diarrhoea and vomiting

d) Sore eyes

e) Infectious diseases, e.g., chicken pox, hand foot and mouth disease, measles, mumps, rubella and SARS.

In the event of your child being taken ill while in the centre, the parents will be notified immediately and that all necessary actions will be taken to keep the child well and comfortable while waiting for your arrival.

However, the staff will NOT be allowed to administer any medication without proper medical authorisation. In an emergency, the nearest medical aid will be sought, and any expenses are to be borne by the parents.

Although all effort will be made to ensure the well-being of your child, the centre will not bear any responsibility for any accident or injury sustained.
